RCIA is the process whereby non-Catholics or
the un-baptized can prepare to become Catholic through receiving the sacraments
of initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. Any adult or child
who has achieved the age of reason can enter into the process of the RCIA.
In Spanish, this process is known as RICA (Rito de Iniciación Christiana
para Adultos).
The Archdiocese of New York recommends a two year preparation to receive the sacraments of initiation. Also, any Catholic who has missed receiving the sacraments of Eucharist, Reconciliation, or Confirmation may also be prepared for receiving these sacraments in the RCIA process.
